BC Small Business Awards

We made TOP 5!

We would like to take this time to thank each and every person who showed their support and voted for our company, during the first round of the Small Business BC Awards nominations. Not only did we make it to the Top 10, we have also made it to the TOP 5! Wow! We are honoured to be running alongside four other businesses in the Premier People’s Choice category; Okanagan Rawsome Natural Foods Inv., Rising Knead Bakery, The Gibson Butcher, and ULAT Dryer Balls.

The winners will be announced on February 23rd, at the Awards Gala.

During the voting round, we made an announcement that we will be donating the prize money, if we win. We will be splitting the money between the South Okanagan Food Bank and Meals on Wheels Breakfast program. Why did we decide to donate the prize money? To us, being nominated is the win, making it into the Top 5 is the icing on the cake, and winning will the the cherry on top. We work HARD every day, and we are truly blessed and privileged. Both of us (Duffy and Koa) have grown up in single parent homes. We both have lived through poverty throughout some or most of our childhoods. We both have been working  to support ourselves since our teen years. We understand and empathize with the struggle that so many people in our community face.

Every month food banks in BC help 103,464 individuals,  more than 32% being children.  Food banks come to the aid of a diverse range of people. In addition to the work of the Food Bank, the Meals On Wheels Breakfast Program in Penticton provides nutritious breakfasts 5 days a week at 3 elementary schools: Columbia, Queen’s Park and West Bench. These are children who would normally be going to school without eating any breakfast. The schools have noticed a drastic change in the children’s behaviour and learning ability after the start of the program.  Food insecurity is not going away anytime soon, but we all have to come together and do our part. Every little bit helps.

The South Okanagan community has been an integral part in the growth of Duffy Baker Construction Corp. You have all supported us, cheered us on and referred our company time and time again. We cannot thank you enough for being so awesome. Stepping up and supporting various organizations is a part of our commitment to our community and the people within it. We’ve got your back Penticton!
